8 Weeks Pregnant

Changes in Your Baby at 8 Weeks Pregnant

If you can picture a Lima bean then you can imagine how big your baby is at 8 weeks pregnant. Many women like the description of a bean so much that they continue to refer to their baby as their little bean for weeks to come. It’s hard to grasp the fact that the “little bean” will grow into a full size baby, but it does.

Your baby is growing at warp speed during your pregnancy at 8 weeks pregnant with arms and legs beginning to lengthen. At this point, your baby’s eyelids will begin to cover their eyes and the brain is maturing as nerve cells begin to connect with each other. During week 8 your baby’s nose is even formed.

During Pregnancy Week 8 the lungs are working hard to develop and will not complete formation until near term. Also the airways leading from the baby’s throat to the lungs are beginning to form branches.

Those little elbows that will poke you from time to time in the future are becoming more distinct allowing the arms to curve around the baby’s chest. During Week 8 organs are developing at an incredible rate and before you know it that little bean will resemble a miniature human being complete with fingers and toes and all those other parts we all have.

Changes in Your Body at 8 Weeks Pregnant

There is a lot of growth going on inside of you during 8 weeks pregnant even though it’s probably still not noticeable on the outside as much as you feel on the inside as your uterus continues to grow. Even though it is a bit early for maternity clothes, it’s never too early to start shopping. Start looking for some maternity jeans so you can be ready when those tightening jeans can no longer be worn.

At 8 Weeks Pregnant your healthcare provider would probably tell you that your uterus is now the size of a grapefruit. Just think your uterus at the beginning was no bigger in size than a plum.

Since first-time mothers probably aren’t showing at this point, it is different for women who have given birth before. It is not uncommon for first time moms to not start showing until the fifth month, while moms the second and third time around have reported showing by the 8th Week. Women carrying twins or triplets will start showing a lot earlier also since your babies take up a lot more room in the uterus.

Chances are during Pregnancy Week 8 you have noticed some breast changes. Besides the tenderness you have been feeling, you are probably noticing they are getting larger. This breast growth will continue week by week, but more rapidly near the end of pregnancy as your breasts prepare to produce milk for the baby. This may be a good time to start looking into the basics of nursing clothing.

At this stage you are probably battling fatigue and nausea and onlookers still can’t tell you’re pregnant even though your waistline is getting thicker. Just remember that time will allow everyone to know you are pregnant and will also take care of the symptoms you are dealing with in early pregnancy. These symptoms should pass so you can have a rewarding and enjoyable pregnancy.

If breast soreness has become a real issue for you, you may want to consider purchasing a supportive maternity bra. A maternity bra may be your first purchase of any maternity clothing.

Midway through the first trimester you may begin to experience some very mild abdominal cramping. This cramping usually does not cause harm and is mild, but if you experience any unusual abdominal pain or cramping accompanied with bleeding or that is persistent or worrisome, contact your healthcare provider right away.

At 8 weeks pregnant you may experience a lower backache which is common during pregnancy? If you are, this is due to the pressure the uterus is putting on the lower part of the spine. You may even have a sharp pain in your buttocks and on the side of your thigh. This is caused by the pressure the uterus is putting on the sciatic nerve that innervates the buttocks and side of your leg. Although troublesome at 8 weeks pregnant, these can usually be relieved with rest or possibly physical therapy. By the 12th week your backache subsides only to be replaced by round ligament pain.
